Highlights and Goal Achievements in the First Stage
A. Implementation of Teaching Innovation and Enhancement of Teaching Quality
The Main implementation goals by the Implementation of Teaching Innovation and Enhancement of Teaching Quality are as follows:
- Construct a cross-domain learning environment.
- Rich cross-domain learning resources.
- Activate innovative teaching content.
- Enhance learning opportunities across domains.
- Build a support system for teachers.
- Provide teacher project resources.
- Solid teaching knowledge.
The framework to “Implement innovation in higher education and improve teaching quality,” is shown in Figure 1.

The main core of university is to cultivate practical skills of students and interdisciplinary ability. With the implementation of Higher Sprout Education Projects, the projects of teaching innovation, the enhancement of teaching, the practical experience of faculty and students, and the interdisciplinary micro-programs are therefore enhanced and implemented.
The number of students participating in courses of interdisciplinary micro programs has reached 3,570, and 245 faculty members have offered courses with innovative teaching methods. According to government regulations, 100% of the faculty members obtain practical experience in the industry, and the rate of graduates entering the workplace reaches 95%.
In recent years, students have been awarded innovative entrepreneurship competition with nearly TWD 6 million as a prize. In addition, the improvement of students’ Chinese and English ability exceeds 90%. Also, 100% of the students have received the training of computational thinking courses. Additionally, there are 1,171 awards in domestic and foreign competitions, such as Shih-Kai Chen, the student from the Department of Wood Science and Design, won the gold medal in the 2022 World skill Competition, witnessing the effectiveness of practical skills training offered by the university.
From 2018 to 2022, our colleges earn IEET and AACSB international accreditations, as exhibits the excellence of teaching quality.
B. Developing University’s Features
The Main implementation goals by the Developing University’s Features are as follows:
- Focus on industry-university cooperation in the industrial chain
- Enhance international visibility and influence
- Carry out research energy and strengthen the school’s advantages and characteristics
- The framework to “Developing University’s Features,” is shown in Figure 2.
The University promotes project plans to strengthen faculty’s participation and has outstanding achievements with public or private enterprises. The academia-industry collaborations between public or private enterprises are totaled TWD 1.3 billion, which accounts for 25% of the overall funding of industry-government-university-research program, and the number of projects of interdisciplinary research teams, consisted by faculty members, has increased by 189%, In addition, the number of projects in cross-university research and development cooperation has increased by 111%. Among the projects, the interdisciplinary research team “Development of intelligent railway vehicle and agricultural electric vehicle” organized by Professor Chen from the Department of Vehicle Engineering. Through the implementation of the first phase of the project and the past achievements, there are 67 cases of industry-government-university-research projects with a total of TWD 140 million, technology transfer funds with a total of TWD 6.55 million, 11 pieces of patent applications, 6 pieces of certified patents, and the research and development of 5 types of smart agricultural vehicles, in the meantime, it is also included agricultural spraying crawler vehicles, follower vehicles, automatic fish feed sprinkler vehicles, rice field smart vehicles Tools , and PRT. Meanwhile, there are 4 items that are under development.
C. Promotion of Publicness in Higher Education
The Main implementation goals by the Promotion of Publicness in Higher Education are as follows:
- provide better guidance for students in poor economic or cultural situations
- integrated administrative unit
- Promote Indigenous culture
- Support multiple teaching systems
- To build up IR feedback mechanism
The framework to “Promotion of Publicness in Higher Education,” is shown in Figure 3
The enrollment number of economically or culturally disadvantaged students in the university has increased from 248 in the Academic Year 2019 to 329 in the Academic Year 2022, with a growth rate of 132.7%, and in 2022, there have been 5 types of bursary projects (combined learning bursary projects and reading clubs), top-notch awards for competitions, professional and technical courses, certificate examinations, multi-ability learning and other bursary projects to promote the willingness of economically disadvantaged students to learn and stimulate learning opportunities 687 people.
Incentive measures for teaching excellence and innovative teaching. In the past 3 years, nearly 600 teachers have received awards, and the award-winning teachers have applied for teaching practice research projects with a total amount of TWD 8.32 million.
D. Fulfilling Social Responsibilities of the University
The Main implementation goals by the Fulfilling Social Responsibilities of the University are as follows:
- Teachers and students jointly invest in professional services
- Actively link social practice locally
- Improve the school administrative support system
The framework to “Fulfilling Social Responsibilities of the University,” is shown in Figure 4
For nine consecutive years (from 2014 to 2022), the university has won the first place in the Green Metric World University Ranking, and in 2022, the University has set a record of 27th in the world and 3rd in Asia region. Also, our university has won the Platinum Award in the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards with the published report “NPUST 2020 Sustainability Report.” In addition, the University participated in Times Higher Education and ranks 7th among the 35 universities in Taiwan and ranks 1st among the universities of science and technology. Among them, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) ranks in the top 100, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) are within 200. Additionally, the University has won USR EXPO: won the Best Practice Award in 2019, the 2021 Plan Highlight Story Award, and won the “Global Views Monthly Special – USR University Social Responsibility Award – 3 Role Model Prizes, 1 first prize and the prize of comprehensive performance group technical group” for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022.
